Saquib Ejaz Hussain

Saquib Ejaz Hussain is an ESIA specialist who has practiced environmental planning, assessment and compliance for the last 11 years. He is the general manager of EMC Pakistan, one of the country’s pioneering environmental consultancies. He is also a Director at EMC Waste Management Company, a leading hazardous waste management solution provider in Pakistan.

Saquib started his career with the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency. He has developed an expertise in carrying out and managing environmental audits, environmental assessments and environmental due diligence for projects in the public and private sectors. He has managed projects funded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in addition to projects under the purview of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He has significant experience of conducting environmental assessments for energy sector projects eg LNG terminals, coal power projects, and alternate energy, as well as urban infrastructure including high rise buildings, highways and mass transit systems.

Some of Saquib’s landmark projects where he served as Team Leader include the Nationwide Mapping of Textile Industries to Analyze the Requirement of Combined Effluent Treatment Plants conducted for Ministry of Textile Industry Government of Pakistan; Baseline Study of Khirthar National Park for Sindh Wildlife Department, Baseline Study of Solid Waste Management for I-9 and I-10, Islamabad, conducted for UN Habitat; Environmental Impact Assessment of Mining Activities in Sindh conducted for Mines and Minerals Development Department Sindh; Environmental Impact Assessment of Karachi Transportation Improvement Project conducted for JICA; ESIA of Pakistan’s First Engro LNG Terminal Project funded by IFC and ADB; and ESIA of Pakistan’s first dedicated dirty cargo terminal for Pakistan International Bulk Terminal (PIBT) under World Bank funding.

He has also published some of his work in international journals on the subject of environmental assessment. Saquib obtained a postgraduate degree in Applied Chemistry with distinction and has attended various professional courses internationally on environmental impact assessment, waste management, carbon footprint analysis (CFA), energy and environment auditing and environmental modeling.
