Webinar – Responsible and inclusive investments. Impacts on smallholder rice farmers, particularly women, during COVID-19
Rice is a staple food for more than half of the world’s population, predominately produced, traded and consumed in Southeast Asia. The prolonged impact of COVID-19 continues to put pressure on the rice supply chain and producers. Responsible investments into the rice value chain focused on improving the resilience of farmers, particularly women, are more important than ever for protecting food security.
In partnership with Oxfam’s GRAISEA initiative, ELEVATE is hosting a webinar on October 1st to explore how businesses, NGOs, and investors are responding to challenges caused by COVID-19 to safeguard food systems and protect farmers. Join Erin Sweeney of Grow Asia, Abelardo Cruz of Amru Rice, Dr. Yurdi Yasmi of IRRI, and Mabel Wong Senior Director at ELEVATE as we highlight the response opportunities that could protect livelihoods in the rice value chain and help improve the resilience of smallholder farmers.
During the webinar we will discuss the following questions:
- Impacts of COVID-19 on the rice value chain in Southeast Asia
- How rice producers are keeping workers safe, and employing new strategies to improve long term resilience to market shocks
- Investment opportunities to protect farmers and improve sustainable agriculture in the longer term
- How the pandemic is impacting women in the rice value chain and targeted investments that can lead to a stronger recovery for women
