A plethora of company reports stress their intent to be a good community partner, to manage their relationship with the environment and with society. Increasingly this has become more strategic, where companies are partnering with charitable organisations, not-for profits, government counterparts as well as other businesses, who have a wealth of expertise across development issues.
What do we mean by partnership? The win-win situation of combining the best of businesses (capabilities, technology and expertise) with that of other organisations to meet global development challenges. A partnership should focus on joint objectives and more importantly address the larger community needs. When partnership is invested into more tangible long term projects with a measurable impact on the local communities, this when managed well, can bring together many of the objectives of a community investment programme and can also introduce new ways of working.
At this Roundtable event just before CSR Asia’s annual Summit, companies participating will share experiences and challenges faced whilst engaging in partnerships for community development. Some key recommendations from the business perspective will also be discussed.

Launch & Workshop of Responsible Practices for Better Business Guide
Increasingly, international companies require suppliers to be responsible in their business practices as well as to produce sustainable products. Many Malaysian companies are part of the global supply chain and this guide provides a clear business case for operating a responsible business. This guide serves as an easy starting point for companies to consider how they can be responsible in their operations, thus contributing to sustainable development.
This guide is designed to provide basic ideas on how businesses can start thinking about responsible practices in the work place, community, environment, health and safety, preventing bribery and corruption, as well as product stewardship. The guide is designed for Malaysian companies that are, or would like to become, suppliers to Dutch businesses. It is also to help Dutch and international companies investing in Malaysia to understand the legal, environmental and social issues that could affect their business and how to work with local partners to resolve them.
The launch will be graced by H.E. Paul Bekkers, Ambassador of the Netherlands.
