David Boyd-Thomas

David Boyd-Thomas leads the Asia Pacific corporate responsibility program at UBS, one of the world’s leading financial firms, which operates in 13 countries in the Asia Pacific region (including Japan, India and Australia) with more than 9,000 employees. His prior leadership roles include The Nature Conservancy’s Asia Pacific program; the Vancouver General Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association; the University of Toronto; and the Canadian Opera Company. A Toronto native, he is a graduate of the University of Toronto (Trinity) with a BA in English and maintained the designation of Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) from 1996 to 2009.

David has taken on volunteer leadership positions with CSR Asia, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) in both Hong Kong and Canada and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. As Chair of the latter organization he was instrumental in lobbying for increased favorable tax treatment of charitable gifts by the Canadian government. From 2000 to 2004 he was one of 50 leaders from the NGO sector invited to participate in the Voluntary Sector Initiative with the Government of Canada – a policy research and advisory forum; this lead to the first comprehensive study of the economic impact of the NGO sector in Canada. Presently, David is Chair of CSR Asia’s Community Investment Roundtable.
