What's Next in Supply Chain Transparency

Public disclosure of supply chains, buying practices and environmental and social conditions in factories is on the rise. This session will explore the cutting edge of transparency, with lightning demonstrations from four new apparel sector transparency initiatives,  followed by a panel discussion of how this rising tide of comparable, company-specific and publicly accessible data might evolve in the coming years. Explore how transparency can enable collaboration, and how your organisation can ride this coming wave of transparency to your advantage.

The discussion will be moderated by C&A Foundation, and the panellists are:

• Open Apparel Registry (OAR) aims to become the go-to source on supply chain relationships, collating disparate factory lists into one central, open-source map, listing factory names, address and affiliations (public map launches October 2018)
• Wage Indicator gathers factory conditions data direct from workers,  publishing individual factory performance against 49 compliance measures in real time  (public factory pages launched January 2018)
• Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs (IPE)Green Supply Chain Map openly links buyers with their suppliers' air pollution and waste water discharge for nearly 15,000 facilities in China using publicly available real time and historical data (public map launched January 2018)
• Better Buying rebalances the power dynamic between buyers and suppliers, enabling suppliers to candidly rate their buyers’ purchasing practices on 7 critical dimensions, publishing benchmark reports, sharing actionable information with buyers and reporting to suppliers on the progress of their customers’ efforts to improve purchasing practices. (The second Better Buying Index Report is due out fall 2018.)
