Free shared value immersion visits on seven pressing issues in Hong Kong
This December, in collaboration with the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) to promote the Shared Value Initiative, CSR Asia will co-host seven immersion half-day visits with various NGOs and social enterprise (SE) partners in Hong Kong.
Expanding on our successful Shared Value Forum, held in September, and the Shared Value workshops in the last month, the visits feature seven important issues Hong Kong is facing. Designed for companies that are looking for both inspiration and partnerships to develop or support Shared Value projects/ initiatives, the visits will highlight issues on food waste, plastic waste, housing needs, building an age-friendly city, engaging at-risk youth, empowering people with disabilities and providing opportunities for ethnic minorities. The aim is to provide participants the opportunity to explore potential Shared Value solutions and to help generate solutions in a fun and creative environment at the Ideas Jam session.
All visits are free of charge. As space is limited, registration is limited to no more than to two visits per person.
ALL VISITS INCLUDE:
- A brief introduction of Shared Value
- A visit or sharing session by the NGO/ SE partner, providing key insights on local issues and showing examples of existing solutions
- An Idea Jam session with other participants
THEMES, PARTNERS AND DATES:
1) SUPPORTING HONG KONG’S ETHNIC MINORITIES
Hong Kong is home to over 200,000 ethnic minorities (EM), yet the poverty rate of some EM groups could be as high as 50%. Join this tour co-hosted by HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre and Hong Kong Call Centre Association to learn more about what life is like for EM’s in Hong Kong and to see socially innovative examples that could increase job access and empower EMs to fulfil their potential.

2) ENGAGING AT-RISK YOUTH
Timely intervention and continuous support are critical for helping at-risk youth. Join us as we visit the headquarters of Youth Outreach, the largest organisation in Hong Kong dedicated to supporting at-risk youth, and learn more about the support they offer to help young people overcome problems and grow into responsible members of the community.

3) UNDERSTANDING COMMUNITY HOUSING
Around 200,000 people in Hong Kong live in inadequate housing, such as caged and cubicle houses. Participants of this visit will see an exclusive exhibition hosted by the Society for Community Organization, and will learn about the new government-backed Community Housing Movement led by HKCSS.

4) TACKLING FOOD WASTE AND HUNGER
Hong Kong is famous for both its food and food waste. Over 3,500 tonnes of food is wasted daily, making up 36 percent of the city’s daily solid municipal waste, while poor households are struggling to afford decent meals. Join this visit to participate in a real vegetable recycling exercise at a wet market, and take part in a fruitful discussion on rethinking how we use food waste to alleviate hunger.

5) UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
People with disabilities make up 7.4 percent of Hong Kong’s population, but their potential is not often communicated or discussed. Join this visit to learn about the solutions and services offered to people with physical and mental disabilities by professionals at the Hong Kong Society for the Blind and MentalCare.

6) PLASTIC WASTE AND THE FUTURE OF RECYCLING
In 2015 alone, 3.7 million tonnes of municipal waste were produced in Hong Kong. With almost 2,000 tonnes discarded daily, plastic waste is a key contributor. During this visit, participants will tour the Plastic Sorting factory, and witness first-hand the processes involved in collection, sorting and recycling of plastic waste. Guests will also take part in a plastic sorting exercise of their own.

7) CREATING AN AGE-FRIENDLY CITY
By 2037, there will be 2.37 million people aged 65 or above in Hong Kong. What innovations will Hong Kong need to prepare itself for the ageing population? How can it become an age-friendly city? Join this visit to see some solutions provided by the Longevity Design House and brainstorm with us about other needs and opportunities arising from an ageing city.
