Yeon-chul Yoo

Ambassador for Climate Change, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Republic of Korea

Ambassador Yoo, Yeon-chul has served the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 33 years and was appointed as the Ambassador for Climate Change in 2018. He is also serving as the Vice-chair of UNFCCC’s Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) since 2019.

Ambassador Yoo was involved in environmental issues since 1991, when he participated in his first climate change negotiation. He served as Director of Environment and Science Division (2003), and Deputy-Director of Energy and Climate Change Division (2009), and also worked as Director-General for International Cooperation in the Ministry of Environment (2011).

When seconded to the Presidential Committee for Green Growth from 2009 to 2011, he made contributions to the establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute (2010). Moreover, he was also involved in hosting the Green Climate Fund in Korea (2012).
