Ethical Performance

Ethical Performance is passionate about the importance of CSR in today’s business world – in all its diverse aspects. Whether you call it ‘corporate responsibility’, ‘corporate conscience’, ‘corporate citizenship’, ‘social performance’ or ‘sustainability’, the core principle remains the same: a belief that business should embrace responsibility for its actions and to have a positive impact on the environment, on society and on people. The different terminology used by business about CSR shows the many varied approaches – and emphasis – that businesses have. At Ethical Performance we aim to examine these as well as discuss the urgent CSR issues all businesses need to address. Every month we provide a concise but detailed look at the dominant issues of the day while our website, www.ethicalperformance.com, keeps you updated on a daily basis. Our sister publication, Best Practice, showcases case studies representing the very best in CSR and sustainability practice. By talking to the people at the coalface, we highlight current CSR practices as a way of helping you explore and develop different approaches for your business – by they environmental, workplace or community. HKCSS

Established in 1947, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service is a federation of non-government social service agencies of Hong Kong which aims to plan and coordinate large scale relief works and social welfare.  The Council has been an essential partner of the Hong Kong Government in social welfare and development for more than 60 years.  Today the Council represents more than 400 Agency Members, providing over 90% of the social welfare service through their operating units in Hong Kong.

In 2002, the Council launched the Caring Company Scheme (the Scheme), aiming to foster strategic partnerships between the business and social services sectors to promote good corporate citizenship and create a more inclusive society.  The Scheme also helps corporations and social services organisations to understand one another at a much deeper level.  This has largely stimulated the development on cross-sector projects that focus on the needs of the community.  In 2013/14, 2,768 companies and organisations were awarded the Caring Company/Caring Organisation logos.  This is an indication that local companies and organisations recognise the importance of corporate social responsibility, and that more of them are willing to take up that responsibility to care for the community.
