Helping the supply chain do better: Capacity building in factories
2 November 2008 (a.m.)

“How do we get our factories to follow our code of conduct or even comply with local laws?” Most companies that take their social and environmental responsibilities seriously have asked this question. The answer is not easy, but this workshop will outline some of the ways that CSR Asia has developed training and capacity building in the supply chain and show that there is a strong business case for embedding CSR in factories.

Workshop leader: Stephen Frost, Executive Director, CSR Asia
Stephen is an international speaker, trainer and consultant on CSR. He has a keen interest and substantial experience in engaging companies with the new social media, particularly in the Asian context.

Stakeholder engagement
2 November 2008 (p.m.)

In order to practice corporate social responsibility (CSR) there is a need for companies to define exactly what is responsible, which can only be done in dialogue with stakeholders. This session will outline the ways in which stakeholders can be identified, prioritized and engaged, stressing the need for an ongoing dialogue to highlight emerging trends and issues and establishing effective partnerships.

Workshop leader: Richard Welford, Chairman, CSR Asia
Richard has carried out stakeholder dialogue for a number of companies including Cathay Pacific, the Swire Group, China Light and Power, TXU Utilities, The Body Shop, the Hong Kong MTR and HP.

Community investment and community impact: Measuring what matters
5 November 2008 (a.m.)

"What gets measured gets managed and what gets managed gets done" is a widely quoted management philosophy. However, is the same principle also guiding companies' approaches to community engagement, community investment and understanding community impact? Join this session to learn about current approaches to measurement of community investment and community impact.

Workshop leader: Michelle Brown, Community Investment Advisor, CSR Asia
Michelle has 10 years of experience in Asia working on partnerships for development. She has held a variety of roles in global development organisations as well as worked both in and for large companies and small enterprises.

Is the social media worth engaging? Evidence from the on the ground
5 November 2008 (p.m.)

What is the worst scenario you can think of involving a disgruntled customer with a digital camera and access to YouTube? If the picture forming in your mind is horrifying, then this workshop is for you. This session will provide you with the broad scope of the new social media, identify key trends in Asia and outline best practices of how companies are responding to the social media, public relations and new forms of engagement.

Workshop leaders: Stephen Frost, Executive Director, CSR Asia
Stephen is an international speaker, trainer and consultant on CSR. He has a keen interest and substantial experience in engaging companies with the new social media, particularly in the Asian context.

Ashley Hegland, Manager, Social Engagement (Sustainability) Practice, Edelman
