Bruce Thomson

Director, Global Social Specialist Sustainability Research S&P Global Ratings

Bruce Thomson is the Global Social Specialist at S&P Global Ratings. As a member of the Sustainability Research team, Bruce leads the thought leadership and research agenda on social topics, aiming to advance understanding of social factors and their material impacts. In this role, he advises the organization’s credit and sustainable finance analysts globally on the effective integration of social factors into issuer and sector analysis.

Previously, Bruce worked in the North America Sustainability Advisory practice at ELEVATE Global where he advised many of the world’s most recognizable brands on strategies to optimize their global supply chains to manage ESG risk and create value through social and human rights risk management. In addition, Bruce worked with asset management firms on pre-investment ESG due diligence as well as investment stewardship. Prior to ELEVATE, he founded and led BrightLabel, a supply chain transparency and sustainability software startup, and worked for as an international trade economist at the World Bank, the UN, and the United States Trade Representative during the Obama Administration.

Bruce received his Masters in Foreign Service (MSFS) from Georgetown University, where he concentrated in International Economics and Finance, and he graduated with honors in Political Science from Wake Forest University.
