Val Ethier is the Technical Compliance Manager for ASIC and for the past decade has focused on the many different aspects involved in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture and the communities that depend on them. Val has worked on a variety of projects including feasibility studies for fisheries monitoring technology, aquaculture environmental impact analysis, and certification benchmarking. Her recent focus has been on evaluating aquaculture practices or standards and developing comprehensive improvement plans. She has worked previously as an independent consultant with groups including Seafood Watch, SeaChoice and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the U.N. Val holds a B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University and an M.Sc. in Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria.
