Dr. Yurdi Yasmi

Regional Representative for Southeast Asia at International Rice Research Institute | Personal views

A leading natural resource manager, thinker and scientist Dr. Yasmi works as the Regional Representative of IRRI for Southeast Asia. Previously , he held various strategic leadership roles with leading international organizations. He was the Coordinator of Sustainable Agriculture, Forestry & Fishery for Asia and the Pacific at FAO, Coordinator of ICRAF Mekong region and the Manager of AFLI (Agroforestry for Livelihoods of Smallholder Farmers), Head of Research, Capacity Building and Technical Services at RECOFTC, Scientist at CIFOR and Wageningen University.

He was appointed by the World Bank as one of the eight high level members of the Expert Panel for Forest Investment Program (FIP). He was a member of IUFRO Review Panel Committee that review IUFRO strategic results. He is also a member of Global Expert Panel of IUFRO’s global initiatives. Additionally, he was an expert member of ITTO (International Tropical Timber Organization) for sustainable forest management in the tropics. He initiated partnerships with international organizations (e.g. TNC, CIFOR, FAO, SNV, SDC, ITTO, etc.), national governments in Asia, inter-governmental organizations (e.g. ASEAN) and NGOs. He travels extensively and has visited some 40 countries.

He received a PhD and MSc from the Forests and Nature Conservation Policy Department of Wageningen University, the Netherlands.

Dr. Yasmi also an effective facilitator of important global and regional meetings/events.

He has published over 70 publications.
